This interview details Shrooly, a company specializing in providing mushroom growing devices based in Hungary. The interview is with Samuel Schaffhauser, Co-Founder of Shrooly.
What is the origin story of Shrooly?
We founded Shrooly back in September 2021 with David Palanki.
We tried numerous mushroom supplements to enhance our health, but we found them to be ineffective. When we discovered that most mushroom supplements do not contain the actual fruiting body of the mushrooms, but rather myceliated brown rice, we began developing a machine that could automatically create optimal conditions for growing mushrooms, ensuring the highest quality. Initially, we constructed it using a plastic box and Arduino components. Later on, we realized that many individuals had the same need but lacked a truly effective solution for their problem.
What are some of the biggest challenges facing Shrooly in the future?
We recognize the immense potential of mushrooms. Every year, millions of people become increasingly interested in mushrooms and their remarkable health benefits. However, each individual has unique requirements when it comes to mushrooms. Consequently, we are genuinely optimistic that we can develop comprehensive solutions to cater to diverse needs in the future.
What is unique about Shrooly compared to competitors?
Discussing competitors proves to be quite challenging given their limited presence in the industry. While a small number of pioneers exist, each with their unique solutions, we take pride in being the first company to develop a machine capable of large-scale manufacturing. The significant growth of indoor gardens over the past decade has granted us valuable insights into the market, which we can leverage for our learning and development.
How do you measure the impact of Shrooly so far? (Revenue, Employees, Customer Quantity, Production Volume) etc?
We can gauge the impact of Shrooly by the significant number of pre-orders we have received. Over six thousand people have placed their trust in us and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to cultivate mushrooms in their own homes. Yet, our most cherished indicator of impact lies in the active involvement of our customers. We deeply appreciate their contributions and support as they share their ideas, actively participating in the ongoing development of Shrooly.
What have you learned that you wish you knew when you joined or started the company?
Don't hesitate to ask people. When you ask questions about subjects that genuinely interest you, people are usually willing to help, regardless of who they are. Many fruitful conversations and partnerships have begun with a simple question.
How can people connect with you or learn more about Shrooly?
You can reach us via Facebook, Instagram, email (support@shrooly.com), or directly on our website. Our customer support team puts forth tremendous effort to offer the best possible answers and assistance. If you don't believe us, just write them a message :)
