What is the origin story of Hydrosome Labs?

Hydrosome Labs has its roots in the pharmaceutical industry and the current team bought the technology from individuals experimenting with highly pure water for cancer-fighting compounds.

Enlightenment and discovery then eventually came from extensive study on why and how the ultrafine bubbles created by the technology worked and where they would perform best. Seeing the opportunities for a variety of practical ways to deliver benefits to people, plants, animals and multiple products, Hydrosome Labs was launched in its current form in 2020. Our business strategy is driven by science.

What are some of the biggest challenges facing Hydrosome Labs in the future?

While it is a period of rapid expansion in the indoor farming industry, it is also a period of consolidation and churn, including in cannabis. Given the overall cost savings and other benefits, though, we are seeing firms doubling down on the technology. Even with some competition, we believe our product is unique and the future is bright for the category.

A continuing challenge for Hydrosome Labs is the multiple applications for Hydrosome H2O and the need to focus on the categories where we can make the biggest difference. In addition to enhancing agricultural yields with less fertilizer, Hydrosome H2O has numerous other applications, including improving the absorption of vitamins in skin care and delivering faster, longer-lasting hydration in performance drinks and many more.

What is unique about Hydrosome Labs compared to competitors?

Two things: our unique technology and our team.

To date, we have conducted over 100 scientific studies and have collaborated with investigators from leading Universities and clinical research labs including the University of Chicago, Cornell University, North Carolina State University, and TRI Princeton. Some highlights:

  • Increases sellable yield. Proven to increase agricultural yields 20-100% across various plant species from cannabis to leafy greens
  • Improves germination and propagation. Proven to increase germination and propagation success rates from 30-100%
  • Reduces fertilizer and herbicide use. Hydrosome H2O has been shown to reduce the need for fertilizers and herbicides by up to 50% while also maintaining improved yields
  • Reduces water usage with some plant species, Hydrosome H2O has been shown to reduce water usage by up to 15%

In terms of our team, half the company has PhDs or advanced degrees with experience in chemistry and technology from everywhere from Constellation Brands to Argonne National Labs. The science advisory board – including Procter & Gamble’s former head of innovation – is active in setting scientific direction. They are not window-dressing. The team and advisors also include execs from Fortune 500 companies like Nestle Health Sciences and Chobani.

What are some other relevant metrics of the company (growing area size, production quantity, team size, etc.)?

Our company is rapidly expanding. We have customers across multiple categories including agriculture with a robust pipeline of Fortune 500 companies. We have kicked off a Series A fundraising round to support continued investment in R&D and business development. One attractive factor is that our technology is highly scalable. Through custom solutions, we are able to support water volumes from one hundred gallons a day to several hundred thousand gallons a day.

What are some goals in 2024 and beyond for Hydrosome Labs?

Above all, we want to provide the best product and ongoing service to our current customers. In terms of new customers, we are investing in new business development and building new relationships with growers, horticulturalists and R&D staff. We want to contribute to the indoor farming revolution, making the category more sustainable, productive and profitable.
