This interview details Ecocool GmbH, a packaging solutions provider based in Germany. The interview is with Florian Siedenburg, General Manager of Ecocool GmbH.
Ecocool was founded in 1999 by Heinrich Siedenburg. The original business model (reusable, lightweight insulating containers for grocery stores) didn’t really take off. However, there was a growing interest in (mostly single use) insulating packaging, cooling elements and thermal covers which Ecocool was quickly able to develop and deliver.
The biggest growth drivers in the company’s history were the introduction of GDP guidelines in pharma logistics, which accelerated the sales of thermal covers and the advent of the e-food industry with home delivery meal kits and B2C delicacies companies. Ecocool is now a leading manufacturer of thermal covers and flexible cooling elements in Europe.
The transition towards greener and plastic-free packaging solutions is the most important challenge at the moment. We are very well positioned with our paper-based and plastic-free insulating boxes and pouches (INNOBox and INNOBag) for parcel shipments of chilled or frozen products. We have introduced gel-free icepacks with pure water filling instead of the traditional gel formulation.
Bespoke formats and solutions are possible for most of our products. We offer in-depth and customer-specific tests of our products, to give our customers the highest possible degree of certainty that our products perform as expected and meet the customers’ requirements. Finally, fast and flexible lead times and pro-active, customer-centric communication are at the heart of our values.
In the beginning of 2023, we have launched the ECO-Breath thermal cover. This solution is extremely thin and space saving, breathable and yet highly durable. We believe it is the perfect solution for producers and exporters of fresh produce to protect their goods during harvest or shipment from adverse external temperatures that may degrade product quality.
