This interview details Babylon Micro-Farms, a leading indoor farming company based in the USA. The interview is with Chris Hollomon, Marketing Manager at Babylon Micro-Farms.
What is the origin story of Babylon Micro-Farms?
Babylon was founded by Alexander Olesen and Graham Smith while studying at the University of Virginia, aged 22. They were first introduced to hydroponics while working on a social entrepreneurship project exploring the feasibility of building small-scale farms to help people grow their own food in refugee camps.
Can you tell us more about the features of your micro-farm that you wish to highlight?
What are some of the biggest challenges facing Babylon Micro-Farms in the future?
In the near term, our biggest challenge is getting the word out to people about our amazing Galleri-Micro-Farm. Customers are not actively searching for our product because they are not yet familiar with the concept of on-site indoor farming. Word of mouth, social media post of existing happy customers has been an great source of introductions to new customers. Creating broader awareness and education is a major focus for Babylon this this year. (edited)
What is unique about Babylon Micro-Farms compared to competitors?
Our micro-farm is meant to be seen. With a full spectrum white light and a gorgeous cabinet that is customer private-labelable, we stand out in a good way. Our Micro-Farms are fully remote-managed with excellent customer support that gives clients peace of mind that the Micro-Farm is being looked after. We are quite simply the easiest mico-farm to own.
How do you measure the impact of your company so far? (Revenue, Employees, Customer Quantity, Production Volume) etc?
We measure our impact by our entire fleet's impact on the environment.
This past year we have saved: 1,505,495 gallons of water, 200lbs of nitrogen has avoided waterways, and 2696 lbs of food waste has been reduced.
