This interview details Avisomo, a company based in Norway designing new types of vertical farms. The interview is with Endre Thesen Harnes, Chief Commercial Officer of Avisomo.
What is the origin story of Avisomo?
Endre: Started 5 years ago, We are a Norwegian startup with a distinct focus in building affordable and unique systems for vertical farms, As one of the first companies in Norway to sell vertical farming techniques, we received some small push back in our early years but this has given us more understanding allowing us to focus on transitioning into diverse functioning farms.
Our Vertical farming system provider allows us to grow in trolleys that aren’t connected to tech and allow us to grow on different levels simultaneously. Simply set up irrigation, LEDs and air flow to help cultivate the ideal crop climate and conditions.
Some advantages we have seen in our system have been Flexibility in production with the ability to scale to 1 million stations without any complexities. Our system easily implements into our automation machinery without altering the system. We can grow 1 metric ton of leafy greens per station and our Data Trolleys integrate seamlessly, which allows farmers to automate the entire process.
What are some of the biggest challenges facing Avisomo in the future?
Endre: Our biggest challenge is building the automated vertical farms in 15 locations currently with a goal of addressing crop flexibility in the market. Our system is aimed to give the farmer options to growing different crops in a simplified approach without compromising yield and quality. The next goal is building our own farm to prove our automations work seamlessly and produce on a higher level than our competitors.
What is unique about Avisomo compared to competitors? How do you measure the impact of your company so far? (Revenue, Employees, Customer Quantity, Production Volume) etc?
Endre: The recipes, plant recipes!
Our biggest and most unique specification compared to our competitors is our systems ease of movement and ability to adapt to broad environments and climate zones.
Our research facility gives us a “under the hood” perspective at crop development. We have the ability to update crop recipes for distinct regions no matter the climate demands. We have detailed analytics that help us manage our crop production and maximize yield and quality.
We recently just underwent a €2M seed fund to help us build our new facility while we also work on landing larger facilities to produce 20 tons of crop production in Norway. Our biggest ambition for the near future is securing a facility large enough to produce 100 tons of crops through our vertical farming system.
We have 9 full time employees currently working with our organization.
What have you learned that you wish you knew when you joined or started the company?
Endre: I have learned personally that plants are unpredictable & weird. Taught me so much respect for the craft and changing the plans to accommodate these unexpected challenges that plant production creates.
How can people connect with you or learn more about Avisomo?
Endre: You can find us on LinkedIn Avisomo and our website is underproduction but you can contact me directly at endre@avisomo.ag
